Dear Gene Deitch ,

Thanks for making my childhood memorable. You had directed 13 episodes of Tom and Jerry and multiple episodes of the Popeye the Sailor series these two classy cartoons are my favourites since childhood.

You are one of the reasons for the imaginary world at a young age. You had made us trust friendships. The adventures of sailor Popeye and his love Olive Oyl. Though your shows are one reason for my late to school mornings, your shows offered me utmost happiness.

I love “Switchin Kitten” Episode of Tom and Jerry. The way you directed the episode when Jerry roared like MGM lion at the end. “Buddies Thicker Than Water “will always stay close to my heart the way Jerry responds to those never ending letters of Tom in the freezing cold season. You have nailed it with every detail of the episode.

You are not only part of my past. Your shows are part of my present, that solitary dinner nights at hostel after a long day at work. I still play the role of Jerry in real with friends and your characters makes child in me live once in a while. Every time I use the GIFs of your cartoons to portray my innocence and notoriousness in the mid of conversations with my friends.
This evening when I heard you are no more, my heart sank in sorrow and felt that a part of childhood has ended. We cherish your learning’s and will spread your love and values to the next generations. I think you are busy illustrating the way of heaven in to a lovely cartoon.

May you rest in peace Oscar-Winning illustrator and animator.
Love
A girl who is forever a fan of your shows
